How to Hand Roll Your Beeswax Candles
I was introduced to the idea of rolling your own candles a few years ago by one of my preschool colleagues. We made them as an end of year christmas present from the children to their parents. The divine “smells like honey” scent filled the room whilst our fingers became sticky by the continuous rolling! The 3, 4 and 5 year old children became experts at using their fine motor rolling skills, which was an extension of their playdough and clay play.
Hand rolling your own beeswax candles is one of the easiest and most enjoyable do-it-yourself, do-it-with-children experiences. Have a go and you will see…
Lay the pre-cut sheet of wax on a flat surface. Place the precut wick along the edge closest to you, leaving the wick about 1cm from the base of the sheet. Gently press the wick into the sheet. This helps to loosely connect the two materials.
Gently fold the beeswax sheet over the wick. This becomes the inside of your candle.
Keep on rolling to the end of the sheet.
- Keep the rolling taut, as this will give you better candle life
- Warmer ambient air temperature will make the beeswax sheet more pliable and less likely to break.
Enjoy your candles!
